Surya joins Khadka in pole position


Surya Prasad Sharma shot a four under par 68 for a share of the lead with Rabi Khadka at the end of the day two in the Ghanashyam Open Golf tournament at the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club on Tuesday.
Khadka, who was the lone leader in the first day, played a three under 69 on day two. Sharma, finished on two under 70 on Monday, completed a hole in one at the par three 17th to finish level with Khadka on six under 138. Veteran Deepak Thapamangar, Shiva Ram Shrestha and top-ranked amateur Tashi Tshering were tied for the third place on even par 144.
Thapamagar carded one over 73, while Shrestha played two over 74 and Tshering made two under 70 on the second day.
After 36 holes, a total of 21 professional golfers have made the cut in the Rs 300,000 tournament. Khadka continued his impressive run on the second day as he maintained under five until the eighth hole. He putted an eagle at the par 5 seventh hole and made birdies at the fourth, sixth and eighth.
His playing partner Sharma put in a mesmerising performance on the back nine for a share of the lead. After completing the first nine one over 37, Sharma played a bogey-free back nine, sinking birdies at the 11th, 13th and 16th holes before his hole in one at the par 3 17th.
