Pakistani model-turned-actress Veena Malik was expected to find her
prince charming on “Veena Ka Swayamvar”, but the reality show was
aborted after the Imagine channel decided to shut down its operations.
Veena says she is not upset as she knows that her marriage plans are
doomed.
“You know, my wedding dates have been getting ready ever since I was 14. My dad wanted me to get married since then. My parents tried to get me settled down four times and every time I backed out,” Veena told IANS.
She further added, “But when ‘Swayamvar…’ happened, my abu and my friends supported me a lot. When I was ready for it (marriage), it didn’t happen. I think my marriage plans are jinxed. It has been cancelled many a times.”
After her stint on reality show “Bigg Boss”, “Swayamvar…” would have been her second Indian show. She was not shocked when she came to know that the show has been cancelled.
“I was not surprised when I heard that the channel had shut down, because it was not new to me. Of course, money is an important part. I lost my money, but when my manager called me and told me about it, my only reaction was, ‘Ok’. I believe it happens in our lives. I am a very positive person. (May be Allah ne kuch behtar rakha hai mere liye),” said Veena who is said to be dating director Hemant Madhukar. She is working in his film “Mumbai 125 kms”.
However, she admits her father was upset when the show didn’t happen.
“If ‘Swayamvar…’ would have happened, may be I would have even got married. When it got cancelled, my dad was very upset. Something is wrong with my wedding (kuch toh gadbad hai mere shaadi main). I don’t think I will ever get married.
“I know it’s a beautiful relationship to live with your partner, you grow older together but let’s see when it will happen with me,” she added.
Veena came to limelight after her link-up with tainted Pakistani bowler Mohammad Asif. She rose to fame in India after appearing in the fourth season of controversial reality show “Bigg Boss”. During her stay in the “Bigg Boss” house, Veena was linked to Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel.
Currently Veena is busy shooting for Bollywood films “Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai”, “Zindagi 50:50″, “Super Model” and “Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga”, Kannada version of hit Hindi film “The Dirty Picture”

Cricket looks to hit big in this year’s Pulsar Sports Award, with
strong challenge coming from swimming with spots in each of the
nominations announced for four categories on Tuesday.
Three swimmers and a coach are the four candidates in each of the categories—Best Male Player of the Year, Best Female Player of the Year, Best Youth Player of the Year and Best Coach of the Year. Equestrian also found an unlikely spot in the Best Male Player of the Year category.
The Best Male Player of the Year is likely to see a keen contest with each of the nominees—cricketer Parash Khadka, equestrian Dhurba Prasad Aryal, golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha, swimmer Shailesh Rana and sprinter Tilak Ram Tharu— having notable achievement last year.
Khadka made 95 runs to lead Armed Police Force to a triumph in the Sixth National Games over Nepal Police Club. His other achievements include guiding Nepal to their maiden semi-final of the ACC T2- Cricket Championship, helping minnows Nepal finish seventh in the World T20 qualifiers in UAE and bagging three most-valuable-player awards in the nine matches that Nepal played in the tournament.
Golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha won seven of the total 11 tournaments last year that saw his annual earnings surge to Rs909,600. Swimmer Shaliesh Rana also has a strong base—wining 14 medals, including 19 golds and four silver medals. He also set a new record of 2min 31.7 secs in the 200m individual medley and bagged seven gold medals in the 11th Galaxy Cup.
Tilak Ram Tharu rewrote the record books in the 400m by clocking 48.32 secs and bagged five gold medals in two tournaments. Another candidate Dhurba Prasad Aryal gave Nepal the only gold medal at the First South Asian Beach Games in Sri Lanka, wining an individual gold in equestrian. Likewise, Pramila Rijal (athletics), Shreya Dhital (swimming), Tara Pun (weightlifting) Nabita Shrestha (table-tennis), Ngashala Devi Tamang are the nominees in the Best Female Player of the Year category.
Pun looks the strongest of the five candidates, with two national records and an individual title of the Strongest Woman to help her cause. Pun set a new national record in the 69kg category, with a total lift of 157kgs including 91kg in clean and jerk. Her achievements did not stop there. The former Maoist combatant made another record in Weighlifting Grand Prix and was awarded the title of the ‘Strongest Woman’ at the First South Asian Weight-lifting Championship.
In Youth Player of the Year category, Prithu Baskota (cricket) looks the strongest bet with challenges coming from Sirish Gurung (swimming), Siddhanta Adhikari, Biswarupa Buda (athletics) and Rubin Chettri (cricket). Baskota, skipper of the Nepal U-19 team, was a key member in APF’s win in the National Games. He led Nepal to the second spot in the ICC U-19 World Cup qualifiers.
The Coach of the Year Award category has three candidates—Jagat Tamata, Nabin Singh and Pubudu Dassanayake—from cricket vying for the honours. Tamata, the coach of U-19 national side, made to the list on the back of his achievements in the U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Ireland.
Singh led Janakpur to title at the Women’s U-19 National Championship as well as securing a hat-trick of wins at the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship in Kuwait. Dassanayake, meanwhile, helped Nepal reach the ACC T20 Cup semi-finals and helped the team qualify to the ICC T-20 World Cup. The other nominees in the category are Ishowro Karki of swimming and Bir Bahadur Rana of judo.

A suspected gas explosion reduced a house to smoking rubble, killed a 2-year-old boy and left a man seriously burned in northwest England on Tuesday, police and rescue workers said.
Police were not linking the explosion to terrorism, but said they were treating the child's death as "suspicious."
Superintendent Neil Evans said detectives were looking into reports of a domestic disturbance in the area the night before the explosion.
Fire service spokesman Dean Nankivell said firefighters were looking at a variety of possible causes for the blast, but "gas is definitely a strong contender."
The National Grid utilities company said residents had complained of a smell of gas before the blast.
The explosion left a pile of rubble
where the row house had stood in the town of Oldham, 160 miles (260
kilometers) northwest of London, and damaged two other houses beyond
repair.
Greater Manchester Police said the injured man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious burns. He was in serious but stable condition Tuesday.
Firefighters searched the rubble amid fears more people could be trapped, but found no one.
The National Grid said five houses were damaged and 100 homes evacuated after the blast.
India's new Army chief General Bikram Singh is visiting Nepal on the second week of July.
This will be the first foreign visit of Singh after his appointment as the Indian Army chief last month. Singh will be in Nepal from July 10-13 and is scheduled to meet President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, among others, according to Nepal Army Spokesperson Ramindra Chhetri.
He will be conferred with the title of honorary general of the Nepal Army by President Yadav. The Nepal Army and the Indian Army share a six-decade-old tradition of conferring the honorary rank to the army chiefs of the two nations.
The Nepal Army has said the visit is part of efforts to continue the tradition and will be aimed at bolstering bilateral military ties. "The fact that Gen Singh has decided to be in Nepal for his first foreign visit after assuming office demonstrates the growing importance attached by India to the Nepal Army," said a highly placed Army source.
India's previous Army chief Gen V K Singh had visited Nepal twice during his tenure on the invitation of the Chief of Army Staff, General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung.

In what may seem like a political confrontation between the opposition
parties and the ruling UCPN (Maoist), youth leaders of the Nepali
Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML on Wednesday refused to meet Prime
Minister Baburam Bhattarai
"We have been forced to carry the burden of his wrong move to dissolve the Constituent Assembly (CA). The career of leaders of our generation is now at stake," said NC youth leader Gagan Thapa.
Bhattarai had scheduled a meeting with select youth leaders of other parties who had been supportive of him in the past. Some youth leaders from the opposition parties had good faith in the prime minister because of his commitment to peace and constitution and what his party calls 'progressiveness.' However, other political leaders claimed the PM only wanted to use the young leaders for his own political gains.
"He has not held discussions with those he should have been meeting. This meeting with youth leaders is just an eyewash," Thapa said.
UML youth leaders also said the meeting was meaningless, especially after his recent statement that he will not quit until a new government is formed.
"He [PM Bhattarai] himself is making provocative statements instead of clearing the way for consensus among parties. Why should we meet him?" said UML youth leader Yogesh Bhattarai.
Youth leaders have been molunting pressure on the PM to step down and make way for a national consensus government.
"The prime minister is inviting serious political confrontation instead of putting his signature on paper for the sake of consensus," said Yogesh Bhattarai.
After the youth leaders refused to meet the PM, other leaders were summoned to Baluwatar to discuss a way out of the current political crisis.
