Second day also shutdown
Normal life across the nation has been brought to a standstill on
Monday, the second day of the three-day general strike called by various
ethnic groups demanding ethnicity-based federalism in the new
constitution.
Cadres of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), Indigenous Nationalities Joint Struggle Committee (INJSC), among other groups, including Newar have poured onto the streets of major towns across the nation including the Capital from early morning.
Vehicles are off the road and shops are shuttered, while educational institutions and industries have remained shut. General public are being forced to bear the brunt.
The members of agitating groups organised rallies and chanted slogans to address their demands.
The banda supporters have claimed that the structure of the federal states should be on the basis of the proposals presented by State Restructuring Committee and High-level State Restructuring Commission. They also claimed that the states should be named on the basis of ethnicity.
