Continues Attack

Supporters of the banda called by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) and the Indigenous Nationalities Joint Struggle Committee (INJSC) continued to target journalists and press vehicles on Monday, the second day of their three-day shutdown.
The supporters manhandled seven journalists belonging to different media houses on Monday, while several vehicles being used by journalists and media houses were vandalised throughout the day.
Two vehicles carrying newspapers to Chitwan and Jhapa were vandalised by the supporters on Monday. A vehicle (Ba 5 Cha 962) belonging to Kantipur Publications was attacked at Kerkha in Jhapa district. Another vehicle belonging to Annapurna Post daily was also vandalised.
Banda enforcers also vandalised a vehicle carrying copies of the Gorkhapatra daily in Chitwan and attacked the Chitwan district Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Radhe Shyam Khatiwada. Khatiwada's bike was also vandalised by the banda supporters.
After the strike took a violent turn on Sunday, various social organisations and civil society bodies condemned the “irresponsible and antisocial medium adopted to voice dissent."
The civil society oprganisations said violence should never be a medium to press for demands in a democracy.
Though NEFIN Chairman Raj Kumar Lekhi, in a statement, urged cadres not to obstruct the movement of media persons, banda supporters have ignored the call.
