Mahika beats Raut for maiden career title
Mahika Rana realised her maiden triumph in tennis after lifting the
title in the U-12 girls’ singles category in the First Boris
Lissanevitch Memorial Junior Open Tennis Championship at Satdobato,
Lalitpur on Thursday. Rana put an end to a barren run of five years,
defeating Ira Raut 6-3, 7-5.
Nevertheless, Raut shrugged off her defeat to win the title of U-10 girls’ singles. She edged Alsha Regmi 6-0, 6-0. Abhilasha Bista and Nima Rokka finished at third.
Shamyak Bhusan Bajracharya became the champion in U-10 boys’ singles after ending the challenge of Aryan Subedi 6-1, 6-0. Brishtit Gurung and Aryan Giri finished at third.
Meanwhile, national champion Ashlesha Lissanevitch and Bibhuti Karki confirmed their encounter for the ultimate glory in the U-16 girls’ singles.
Lissanevitch’s younger sibling, Ivanhoe and Ashok Kunwar will vie for the U-16 boys’ singles while Bibhuti Karki and Mayanka Rana will battle it out for the U-14 girls’ singles.
